Product Description
This revised and expanded third edition of the American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook is an indispensable resource for sodium-watchers.

The statistics are in—65 million Americans have high blood pressure, and nearly 5 million suffer from congestive heart failure. Whether you have these health problems now or want to avoid having them in the future, keeping your sodium intake low is one of the best ways to help your heart.

The human body requires sodium to function properly, but if you are like most other Americans, you consume about ten times more than you need. If that’s because you think low-sodium food means low flavor, think again! The American Heart Association shows here that a low-salt diet is not only good for you but delicious, too.

Encompassing everything from appetizers and soups to entrées and desserts, the American Heart Association Low-Salt Cookbook, 3rd Edition, is a wonderful collection of more than 200 scrumptious low-sodium recipes—50 of them brand-new to this edition. I purchased this book after I was advised to maintain a low salt diet for reasons of cardio-vascular health. Not only have my wife and I fallen in love with many of the recipes, we have benefited from lower blood pressure, more energy and weight loss.

I purchased this book for my wife to give to my mother in law to cook for my father in law who needs to eat a low salt diet. I am told that everyone is very pleased with the book and has used many of its recipies with great results. My wife originally read this book by taking out a copy at our local public library. She liked it so much that we later purchased the book.

I recently was put on a low sodium diet and I needed some help getting started. This cookbook has a lot of recipes that are just for the everyday person. There are so many tips too. I think this is a great source for someone who is looking for easy recipes as well as substitute recipes for things you make now but need to change to make them low sodium. I'm very happy with this book. When I first got it it made feel better about a low sodium diet. Better in the sense that it is something I can do and succeed at. In my opinion this is a great book to have in your kitchen.
Even if you are not restricited... as you all know Americans eat way too much sodium and need to cut back.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gift Item for Someone You Know (Or Yourself)   February 19, 2008

Great reference book as well a recipe source. Most processed foods contain so much salt, coupled with our own automatic use of salt, this is a good source of options and cautions for all.

5 out of 5 stars Wouldn't be without it! As a meniere's patient, I trust this resource.   February 7, 2009

My diet is limited to 1500 mg of sodium per day. Its easy to exceed that, but rarely worth it with a condition like Meniere's. I trust this resource for my very quality of life.
